Component Running error when performing VRS 5.2 Repair Install


Question / Problem: 

The following error occurs when attempting to perform a repair installation of Kofax VRS 5.2:

A Kofax VRS component or the help appears to be running.  Please close the application and click OK to continue this installation.  To end this installation, click Cancel.

Answer / Solution: 

This error can occur if any applications that use Kofax VRS / ImageControls are running.  It can also occur if any of the following Microsoft Office applications are running due to their use of the Kofax VRS 5.2 Desktop Productivity Add-Ins:

  • Excel
  • Outlook
  • PowerPoint
  • Word

To resolve this issue:

  1. Shut down any applications and/or services that use Kofax VRS / Image Controls for scanning, image cleanup, or bar code / patch code recognition
  2. Shut down all Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook.
  3. Click OK to continue the installation (or run the repair installation again if Cancel has already been clicked).
