Question / Problem:

How to deactivate a VRS 4.x license for use on another machine

Answer / Solution:

VRS 4.x can be deactivated by running Deactivate VRS from the Kofax Start menu program group, or by running Deactivate.exe.

  1. Launch the Deactivate VRS tool from:
    • Start ¦ Programs ¦ Kofax VRS ¦ Deactivate VRS 
    • Navigate to C:\Program Files\Kofax\ImgCtls\Bin\Deactivate.exe
NOTE: For Ascent Capture or Kofax Capture installations, deactivate.exe can be located in the Ascent Capture program group or in the C:\ProgramFiles\Kofax\Capture\ImgCtls\Bin directory.
  1. A Deactivate VRS prompt will display the active license information and the message “Do you want to deactivate this license?”. Click the Yes button to deactivate, or the No button to exit the deactivation screen.
NOTE: Before clicking the Yes button, save the license information for backup purposes.
  1. With an active Internet connection, the VRS license will be deactivated form the Kofax license server and the deactivation message will display: “License successfully deactivated.” Click the OK button to close.

If an Internet connection is not available or if the deactivation is interrupted, the following error message may display:

“VRS-1301 Unable to contact license server.”
