Deactivate a VRS Elite license without an Internet connection

Question / Problem:

How can a Kofax VRS Elite license be deactivated when there is no Internet connection?

Answer / Solution:

To deactivate a license without an Internet connection:

  1. Open the Administration Console and click the License button.
  2. On the License panel, click Deactivate.
  3. A “Connection failed: Unable to contact the license server” message displays. Click OK.
  4. A "No internet connection message displays". Click OK to deactivate the license.
  5. The license will locally deactivate and a message will display. Click OK.
  6. At this stage, a new file named deactivate.txt is created in the following directory:
    C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Vrs
    ​​​​​​​This file will contain the license deactivation information as well as a link to the VRS deactivation Web site.
  7. The information contained in the deactivate.txt file will be used for the VRS deactivation Web site on a PC with Internet connectivity.
  8. On the VRS deactivation Web site, click the link labeled "Click Here" that is found next to “To deactivate a serial number.”
  9. Enter the serial number and deactivation code from deactivate.txt and click Deactivate.
  10. The message “Your license has been deactivated. The license code has been released” will be displayed, indicating a successful deactivation.
  11. The license can now be activated on another machine.
