Machine ID not populating prevents license activation


Question / Problem: 

What could prevent the Machine ID field from populating with the necessary GUID?  This issue prevents the license from activating.

Answer / Solution: 

The failure of the Machine ID field to populate with the necessary GUID is caused by a permissions issue.  After updating permissions per the "recommended permissions" the machine id populated and the license was able to be activated.  

To resolve this issue:

  1. Configure the VRS file, folder, and registry key permissions as documented in Knowledge Base article #17527
  2.  Once all permissions are updated verify machine ID populates.  
  3.  Activate license
