VRS 100 VRS cannot verify your Machine ID error when loading a Kofax VRS 4.5 scan source

Question / Problem:

Attempts to load a scan source result in the following error:

VRS -100 VRS cannot verify your Machine ID

Answer / Solution:

The error ‘VRS -100 VRS cannot verify your Machine ID’ indicates that the Machine ID that was used to activate the VRS license has changed and does not match the information in the Kofax license utility.

Since the VRS licensing can acquire the Machine ID based on the PC’s hardware such as a Mother Board or NIC card, changes to this hardware can force the Machine ID that VRS is licensed with to change.

If this error is occurring, the VRS license will need to be deactivated to release the old Machine ID and reactivated with the new Machine ID.

To deactivate a VRS license, navigate to the Start menu select RUN and enter deactivate.exe.

The deactivate.exe utility can also be found in the following path:

C:\Program Files\Kofax\imgctls\bin\deactivate.exe

Once the license has been successfully deactivated, it can be reactivated with the new Machine ID. If the license does not deactivate, contact Kofax Technical Support with the license information for a manual deactivation.
