Question / Problem:

Loading a Kofax VRS Scan Source in a third-party TWAIN-based application results in the following error:

Unable to download shared profiles and training data from the VRS server

Answer / Solution:

The warning is due to a corrupted or missing application configuration (Config) file for the third-party application.

To create a new configuration file for the application:

  1. Navigate to the C:\Program Files\ImgCtls\bin folder.
  2. Locate the VCDemo.exe.config file and create a copy.
  3. Browse to the third-party application's executable directory.
    Example for Twacker application: C:\WINDOWS\twain_32
  4. Rename the VCDemo.exe.config file to your application's exe.config.
    Example: Twack_32.exe.config
  5. Relaunch the application and test.
