Kofax Capture Scan module will not open after installing an OEM version of Kofax VRS 5.x

Question / Problem:

After installing an OEM version of Kofax VRS 5.0 or 5.1 and Kofax Capture using the /NOVRS switch, the Scan module will not open.

Answer / Solution:

Kofax Capture's Scan module requires certain File Import sources to be configured. The Kofax Capture installer normally configures these File Import sources when it installs Kofax VRS, but the use of the /NOVRS switch prevents the Capture installer from configuring these sources.

To resolve this issue, the necessary File Import sources must be configured manually:

  1. Open the VRS Administration Console.
  2. Click Scanner Configuration.
  3. In the Scanner List, expand the Other folder and select File Import.
  4. Click Configure Sources.
  5. In the Configure Sources window, click New.
  6. Enter the following Source Name: Software Import
  7. Select the following Source Type: Kofax Software -- Import from disk with image processing
  8. Click OK.
  9. In the Configure Sources window, click New.
  10. Enter the following Source Name: Kofax Ascent Capture Release Source
  11. Select the following Source Type: Kofax Software -- Import from disk with image processing
  12. Click OK.
  13. In the Configure Sources window, click New.
  14. Enter the following Source Name: Kofax Software Import Source (no image processing)
  15. Select the following Source Type: Kofax Software -- Import from disk without image processing
  16. Click OK.
  17. Close the VRS Administration Console and start the Scan module.
