License Failover Support in VRS Server Client

Question / Problem:

Is License Failover supported by Kofax VRS 5.x Server/Client and how can it be configured?

Answer / Solution:

Yes.  License Failover is supported in Kofax VRS 5.1 and higher when installed as a Server/Client installation.  A separate VRS Server license must be activated on the second VRS Server installation for License Failover to be effective.

To configure a VRS Client to point to a License Backup Server:

  1. On the VRS Client station, run the Kofax License Utility:
    • VRS 5.1 - 5.1.2:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\Imgctls\bin\Application\KSALicenseUtility.exe
    • VRS 5.2
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\ImgCtls\bin\KSALicenseUtility.exe
  2. From the File menu, select Select Servers
  3. Enter the hostname, Fully-Qualified Domain Name, or IP Address of the backup license server into the Backup License Server field and click OK.
  4. Select Exit from the File menu to close the License Utility.

The Kofax License Utility writes the locations of the Primary and Backup License Servers to C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Vrs\SALConfig.xml

To push the changes to all the VRS Client stations in the VRS Server/Client environment, copy the updated SALConfig.xml file to C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Vrs\ on the other Client stations.
