Point Existing VRS Client to Another VRS Server

Question / Problem: 

How to manually point an existing VRS Client installation to a different VRS Server installation

Answer / Solution: 

An existing Kofax VRS Client installation can be redirected so that it gets its licensing and shared profiles from a a different Kofax VRS Server installation.

 

To point an existing VRS Client to another VRS Server installation:

  1. On the VRS Client station, stop all applications and services that use Kofax VRS / ImageControls.
     
  2. Navigate to 
    C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Vrs
     
  3. Open SALConfig.xml in a text editor such as Notepad
     
  4. Locate the servers section:
    <licensing>
      <servers>
        <server port="2424" isEnterprise="False">myVRSserver.mycompany.com</server>
      </servers>
  5. Change the value to the Hostname, Fully Qualified Domain Name, or IP address of the new VRS Server installation:
    <licensing>
      <servers>
        <server port="2424" isEnterprise="False">mynewVRSserver.mycompany.com</server>
      </servers>
  6. Save the changes to SALConfig.xml
     
  7. Open KofaxReg.xml in a text editor such as Notepad
     
  8. Locate the SHAREDELEMENTSERVER value in the VIRTUALRESCAN section:
    <Registry>
         <HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>
              <SOFTWARE>
                   <KOFAX>
                        <VIRTUALRESCAN>
                        ...
                             <SHAREDELEMENTSERVER Value="myVRSserver.mycompany.com" />
    

     
  9. Change the SHAREDELEMENTSERVER value to the Hostname, Fully Qualified Domain Name, or IP Address of the new VRS Server installation:
    <Registry>
         <HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>
              <SOFTWARE>
                   <KOFAX>
                        <VIRTUALRESCAN>
                        ...
                             <SHAREDELEMENTSERVER Value="mynewVRSserver.mycompany.com" />
    


     
  10. Save the changes to KofaxReg.xml
