License for This Serial Number is in Use on Another Machine Error Activating Standalone Software VRS License

Issue

Attempting to activate a Kofax VRS 5.x Elite standalone software license in a new installation of Kofax VRS results in the following error message:

A license for this serial number is in use on another machine. That license must be deactivated first.

Cause

This error can occur if the Kofax VRS 5.x Elite software license was activated on another machine and has not been deactivated on that machine.

Solution

To resolve this issue:

• If the machine where the Kofax VRS license was previously activated is still accessible, deactivate the license on that machine per the instructions in the following KB Article:   Deactivate a VRS Elite License For Use on Another Machine
   
• If the machine where the Kofax VRS license was previously activated is not accessible, contact the Kofax Sales Department at (949) 727-1733, Option 1, or info@kofax.com, to request that the license be deactivated.
