Path and Filename Character Limit

Issue

Importing images with a combined filename and path length of over 126 characters fails with one of the following error messages:

• Error 20007 - Cannot recognize File Format
• 9036 - KISHidOpen returned a bad status (-136) error for file

Cause

Kofax VRS  and other ImageControls-based applications, such as Kofax Capture and Kofax Express, are limited to reading images whose path and filename (including extension) contain a combined total of 126 characters or less.

Solution

Shorten the filename or move the file to a shorter path prior to import.
