VRS Elite License Line Item Decremented from Capture License when OEM VRS Already Installed

Issue

Why is a VRS Elite license taken from the Kofax Capture License Utility when an OEM VRS 5.x Professional license is already installed and a qualified scan source is selected?

Cause

A VRS Elite license is a higher license level than an OEM VRS 5.x Basic or OEM VRS 5.x Professional license. Therefore, Kofax VRS on a Capture Workstation will automatically search for a VRS Elite license line item on the Capture license and if one is available, Kofax VRS will use it.

Solution

This behavior can be disabled by modifying the KofaxReg.xml file:

Close all Kofax modules and services on the workstation that use Kofax VRS / ImageControls.
Navigate to:
C:\ProgramData\Kofax\VRS
Locate the KofaxReg.xml file and create a backup copy.
Open the KofaxReg.xml file with a text editor.
Locate the following line:
IGNORECAPTURELICENSE Value="0"
Change the value from 0 to 1.
IGNORECAPTURELICENSE Value="1"
Save and close the file.
Relaunch the Scan module and verify that no license is taken from the License Utility.
